Team up with your healthcare professional
Communication is the basis of any good relationship, including the one with your healthcare professional. Be sure to tell him/her exactly how you are feeling at each visit, even if you feel like you've already talked about it. You can also talk to the person you usually see the nurse. He/she can help answer any questions you might have.
You are both aiming at the same goal
Keep in mind that rheumatoid arthritis is a lifelong disease, and it may take some time before it can be managed as best as possible. The more information you can share with your healthcare professional, whether it's good or bad, the more he/she will understand your individual needs. After all, you both are looking for an RA treatment plan that helps:
- control disease activity
- alleviate pain
- maintain function for activities of daily living
- maximize quality of life

Other medications you are taking
Before you visit your healthcare professional, print out our handy Medication List so you can jot down the medications you are currently taking. Your list should include all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements. Then bring this list to your next appointment and share it with your healthcare professional. He/she will want to make sure your future treatments do not interfere with anything you are taking now.
